INTRODUCTION OF CENTER FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT
THE GENESIS:
The Centre for Rural Development (CRD), an unit if IMS is affiliated institute of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, has been set-up by a group of intellectuals having specialisation in different development related fields. Since success in handling the emerging challenges for development depends upon quality human resource, research and implementation, the mission of CRD is to provide the development sector with the required inputs. The Centre for Rural Development has commenced operation in 2003.
THE THRUST AREAS:
Form class room teaching to collection of primary data, the dedicated members of the CRD Team have competence in the nuances of development. But, presently , the areas of focus are :

In future, CRD is likely to conceptualize and implement, research based, Innovative, replicable and sustainable development projects.
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
As per the guidelines of Utkal University, CRD has started with the one year full-time, Post Graduation Diploma in Rural Development for a batch of twenty four students since academic session 2003-2004.
Tailor made training programmes for different organisations, as well as, short duration capacity building programmes for the voluntary organisations have been commenced. A two year full-time Master of Social Work Course will be introduced soon.
RESEARCH & STUDIES:
The CRD Research Unit, Although new, is already empanelled with several organisation like Unicef, World Bank, Indian Railways, Coal India and various Central/ State department. The areas of research handled by CRD includes.

The expertise of the professional involved at the centre equipped the organization to handle different times and Research and Studies. The CRD Research emphasizes people participation keen developmental programmes. The agency also recognises the relevance of its involvement at every stage from programmes conceptualisation and development of project implementation.

The Centre functions as a resource base for research documentation and information sharing in the area of population, environment, health, social justice and economy.
Faculty of Rural development, management, media & communication health and IT professionals.
Well equipped lecture halls, conference hall, library and digital multimedia Lab.
